The main bus operator 'Rapid Penang' seems to be taking a day off as all the bus lanes are instead lined with 'Milan' buses - a far more ghetto offering; the kind that cruises around with the doors flung wide open. Although that in itself isn't a problem, what has left me baffled are the cryptic bus numbers.
All buses seem to go by either 3-3, 3-4 or 2-3, although buses with say 3-3 can go to very different directions. 3-3 Batu Feringgi, 3-3 Air Itam. Heck, even the one I want is supposed to be a 3-3.
What doesn't help is that Milan seems to either have changed their numbering system or have bought their buses from a failing operator. Case in point, another 3-3 variety bore '69 Batu Maung' on its side. This was actually the number Lonely Planet has listed, yet the bus was actually headed to anywhere BUT my destination. Good thing I'd asked the bus driver or I might be spending the afternoon on a very different part of the island.
