First Night of 2008

In order to not risk slow connections between ferries and buses, and hence missing my morning flight to Bangkok, I decided to head over to Macau the night before. And not knowing when it may shut down for good, I just had to once again check myself in at Vong Kong Hospedaria, the location for Wong Kar-Wai's 'The Hand'. Sure the room was bare and run-down, but you can't really complain at HK$40 a night. Compared to San Va (setting for Isabella and 2046) this place is the real deal, where all the falling apart interior deco has remain unchanged for close to a hundred years. By the time I arrived at Vong Kong it was already 7 something, so I didn't really get around as much as I'd liked, apart from hitting a couple of regularly frequented eateries and walking around the central parts. Luckily all the Christmas/New Year tourists had left (or were perhaps hiding from the cold inside the casinos) so Macau was once again her tranquil self.
